Assignment Norway...

I was to be dropped alone in the Eiker Forest, taking on the identity of Karl Johansen, woodcutter of Kongsberg. It was April 20th, 1943. The time was 2.07 a.m. The dispatcher raised his arm and I flung both legs into the hole. Action station... red light... "Go!" I was out.

The wind howled in my face. I was slung round and struck my head against the wheel of the Halifax. The next thing I knew I was being jerked and flung about, and there, a few yards away, I saw the rear turret of the Halifax silhouetted against the sky. I was hanging from the plane.
