"In compiling this anthology I have aimed to present a representative selection of work by younger poets who have emerged in Britain over the past few years. None was born before 1935, and in fact most are in the middle twenties or early thirties. Apart from their youth, their only common links are the language they write in, the richly varied poetic tradition they inherited and the country they inhabit. Some are already fairly well established, with several volumes to their credit; others are not. All, however, do seem to have attained a definite measure of achievement and this (apart from the age limit( has been by sole criterion for selection."
