The philosophy of Kant - John Kemp
The philosophy of Kant - John Kemp
Although Professor Kemp makes references from time to time to Kant's earlier writings, his main purpose is to expound and elucidate the principal laws and arguments found in the major works of Kant's "critical period"—that is, from the publication of the Critique of Pure Reason in 1781 onwards. He tries as far as possible to explain not only Kant's answers to the questions he set out to answer but also his reasons for asking them. Although the book contains an amount of criticism and assessment, this is subordinate to the primary aim of elucidation. Professor Kemp attempts to consider Kant's mature philosophical thinking as a systematic whole (which he himself certainly supposed it to be), to make some of its obscurities less obscure, and to help the reader to find his way through the complexities and difficulties of Kant's thought.
