Cruising through the city streets, hoping a story would break, Peter Miller followed a passing ambulance to a casualty call. It was a suicide.

An old Jew had been found dead in his apartment. And that might have been the end of it for Miller - except for the diary they found amongst the old man's possessions.

It told an appalling story of the man's life in Nazi concentration camps during the war. Of the death and degradation that had been suffered at the hands of the notorious SS. He named many names.

ODESSA is the code name for the Organisation der Ehemaligen SS-Angehorigen, a nationally organized group of ex-SS men who have devoted the years since the war to covering the tracks of their members from prying Nazi-hunters like Miller.

At first his enquiries are merely a nuisance. But gradually they become a real threat and Odessa, now fully alarmed, moves in to protect its interests - and eliminate Miller.

Once again Frederick Forsyth has written a thriller that is right out of the ordinary. Just as with The Day of the Jackal it is so utterly convincing that it leaves that tantalizing question hanging in the air - is it fact or fiction? Was the case of Edouard Roschmann really on the Odessa File? Indeed, did the Odessa File actually exist?
