John Thomas and Lady Jane - D.H. Lawrence

John Thomas and Lady Jane was one of the titles D.H. Lawrence considered for his most controversial book, Lady Chatterley's Lover - 'nice and old-fashioned sounding' he called it.

This is the second version of Lawrence's novel, in many ways quite different from the first and last: both in the personalities of Parkin the gamekeeper (later called Mellors) and Connie Chatterley, and in the development of the love story. It justifies Lawrence's belief that his novel was, amongst other things, about tenderness.
