Total pastoral care includes the discipleship of new converts. A well-discipled lamb will become a well-disciplined sheep.

The contemporary concept of pastoral care is desperately weak in discipleship. that may be attributed at least in part to the erroneous notion that only the pastor can be involved in pastoral care. Pastors do not have sufficient time to care for so many people. Other leadership must be recruited and trained to assist in the pastoral care of the flock. New Christians need personal discipleship care. Laymen need to join hands with the pastor in giving his care.

This manual contains six lessons which addresses the need for discipleship, the methods of discipleship and the extent of discipleship. These chapters have been written with both the church's pastoral staff and lay leadership in mind.
